New Delhi, July 3, 2025 – A shocking double homicide unfolded on Wednesday night in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar. Police discovered the bodies of 42‑year‑old Ruchika Sewani and her 14‑year‑old son in their locked home, after their husband and father, Kuldeep Sewani, filed a missing person complaint.
Around 9:43 PM on July 2, Kuldeep informed authorities that he was unable to reach his family, and observed bloodstains on the staircase and gate of their residence. When police forced open the door, they found Ruchika in the bedroom and her son in the bathroom, both having sustained fatal injuries from a sharp-edged weapon.
Investigators traced the crime to Mukesh (24), a helper employed by the Sewanis for about 3–4 years. Originally from Hajipur, Bihar, he not only assisted with household chores but also worked as a driver and at their garment business in Lajpat Nagar Market. Totalled investigations suggest that Mukesh, allegedly angered after being scolded by Ruchika—possibly over an unpaid loan of roughly ₹40,000—returned home between 7:30 and 8:30 PM and carried out the killings as an “act of revenge”.
Following the murders, Mukesh locked the residence from outside and fled towards Bihar. He was apprehended the following morning by Uttar Pradesh Railway Police aboard a train bound from Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
Delhi Police have registered a formal murder case. The accused has been brought back to Delhi for questioning while forensic teams review CCTV footage and gather further evidence
